What's new at the Waikiki hotel, outfit inspo & events to know about.
Aloha friend,
We’re heading to Waikiki tonight to attend an event at Wayfinder. So naturally, we got excited about what to wear. Think tropical, funky prints on prints to go with retro aloha vibes of the hotel itself. We’re sharing our outfit inspiration with local brands and boutiques below, as well as more about how you can now celebrate a special occasion in one of the penthouses. And as always, we’re listing the not-to-miss upcoming events throughout the islands.
See you in Waikiki,
The Edit Hawaii team

The boutique hotel on the Kuhio Ave./Ala Wai side of Waikiki opened in 2023, and it’s been a welcomed addition. Local partnerships have included The Vanguard Theory, Welcome Stranger, Bishop Museum, and Foodland, to name just a few. So, it’s no surprise that residents actually want to go there for coffee at B-Side, cocktails at the poolside speakeasy, or dinner at Redfish. And when a staycation is in order.
Now, the Makai and Mauka penthouse suites can be activated for events, and we’re already dreaming up our next girls’ night, birthday party, or a friend’s baby shower. The stunning spaces can hold up to 30 or 40 people, have beautiful private lanais and island views, and the interiors are a tropical dream. We think this edit captures the essence:

The 100% cotton green-striped top and pants from Imrie match the lounge chairs throughout the hotel almost perfectly, and we’re not mad about it.
Bikini Bird’s “In My Aloha Era” trucker hat is one of the shop’s best-selling items as of late.
We were sold on the print and colors of this Soleil Soleil dress from Sister Sister, and it can be worn tied as a dress or left open like a robe over swimwear. Yes.
The 60s flair of the Laie Mini Dress from Eimeo! It's made of organic linen with buttons up the back. Say less.
Matt Breuning’s Maison Shorts in palaka print over a swimsuit. Done.
Said swimsuit: Mai’s Deluxe Everyday Body Suit in Pink Sundays from Guava Shop that doubles as a top.
St. Agni Perforated Ballet Flat in silver from Here. to funk things up.
A Day Camp Bucket Hat in neon, please.
The Las Olitas The Everything Bag from At Dawn that holds…everything.

Closing Time: The Barn 808
We were bummed to hear that The Barn 808 in Hanalei is closing the doors to its physical boutique on April 20. The shop—helmed by surfer-musician Donavon Frankenreiter and his wife Petra for over a decade—is as cool as the couple. It is a treasure trove of goods and brands that are hard to find elsewhere in the islands. But the good news is, The Barn 808 will remain online. We especially drool over “Petra’s Closet” drops, which are pre-loved funky finds, vintage gems and dreamy designer wears. We were recently eyeing a Saint Laurent leather jacket that was an absolute steal (sadly, it sold before we could justify it to ourselves).
